Staff Positions

Director of Athletics, USC Aiken

The University of South Carolina Aiken, an NCAA Division II Institution, is seeking a Director of Athletics.  This position reports to the Chancellor, serves on the Executive Cabinet, and is responsible for developing and supervising an athletic program guided by the University’s Mission Statement and Strategic Plan. The Athletic Director oversees a ten-sport department that is a member of the highly competitive Peach Belt Conference (PBC). Sports include men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s cross country, volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, men’s golf, and softball. The Athletic Director also oversees the Athletic Training Program, Sports information Office and University Spirit Groups. The Athletic Director works in close collaboration with relevant university offices.

The successful candidate will conduct the athletics program in compliance with USC Aiken, Peach Belt Conference and NCAA rules and regulations. Specific job categories include (1) Policy Making, Interpretation and Enforcement; (2) Program Leadership and Development; (3) Financial Management and Fundraising; (4) General Administration; (5) Compliance; and (6) Staff Leadership.

Knowledge/Skills/Expertise Required:
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) and five years of collegiate athletic administrative experience is required. Demonstrated effective leadership, administrative and management skills in a university athletic setting; knowledge and experience in revenue enhancement activities; demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills; demonstrated commitment to gender equity, diversity, and affirmative action; professional and personal integrity; and commitment to excellence are required. Must hold a valid driver’s license.

Assistant Technical Director (Production Manager I) Salary: $35,322 - $42,979 per year, USC Aiken Etherredge Center

Under the supervision of the Executive Director of the Etherredge Center, the Assistant Technical Director is responsible for the execution of technical elements (scenery, lighting and sound) for all Department of Visual and Performing Arts and Etherredge Center Events in the Etherredge Center’s performance venues, the timely and proper maintenance of theatrical production equipment in the Etherredge Center and the overall organization and appearance of theatrical support spaces in the Etherredge Center (i.e. studios, control booths, storage areas, loading dock, etc.).  Requires Bachelor’s degree in related field and 4 years’ experience in theater, radio or TV programming, production or engineering; or high school diploma and 8 years’ experience in theater, radio or TV programming, production or engineering. Assistant Professor of Analytical Chemistry (Tenure-Track) – USC Aiken

The Department of Chemistry and Physics at USC Aiken seeks a full-time, assistant professor, tenure-track faculty member in analytical chemistry (broadly defined) to begin August 16, 2023. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching. Course responsibilities include quantitative analysis, instrumental analysis, and general chemistry. The teaching load for the position is 12 contact hours per semester, with a 9-month contract period. An earned doctorate in chemistry or an equivalent field by the start date is required. ABD candidates will be considered. Salary is commensurate with qualifications.  

The faculty member in this position will establish a productive research program within their area of expertise that involves undergraduate researchers. Start-up funding will be provided. State-of-the-art instrumentation is available through a combination of departmental equipment and easily-accessible UofSC System facilities. The department has partnerships with local industry and the Savannah River National Lab, allowing for collaborative research opportunities. Our departmental guidelines place chemical education research on an equal footing with research in traditional chemistry disciplines.

The faculty member will also advise chemistry majors, maintain departmental instrumentation, participate in faculty self-governance, and engage in service activities for the department, the University, their professional community, and/or the public. Assistant Professor of Computer Science – Cybersecurity

The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of South Carolina Aiken (USC Aiken) offers a B.S. program in Computer Science with concentrations in Cybersecurity and Applied Gaming. Our rapidly growing department invites applications for an Assistant Professor, tenure-track faculty position in computer science to begin on January 1, 2023, with a focus on cybersecurity. A later start date including Fall 2023 will be considered. However, a January 1, 2023 start date is preferred.

ABD will be considered but applicants must have: a Ph.D. in computer science or a related field by August 15, 2023, with expertise and interest in cybersecurity; potential for effective teaching at the undergraduate level using engaged learning strategies appropriate to the discipline and level (normal teaching load is 12 hours per semester); and demonstrated scholarly productivity. Successful candidates must have the qualifications and interests in teaching a wide range of Computer Science and Cybersecurity courses. Candidates are expected to keep an active research group involving undergraduate students and collaborate with the facilities coming to campus such as the National Guard’s Cybersecurity Center, Advanced Manufacturing Collaborative (AMC), and the Army Cyber Command as opportunities arise and participate in CAE activities. Assistant Professor of Music, USC Aiken

The Department Visual & Performing Arts at the University of South Carolina Aiken (USC Aiken) invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Music (Director of Instrumental Studies) beginning August 16, 2023.

Requirements
Earned doctorate in music required for rank of Assistant Professor (tenure track). Candidates currently ABD will be considered but degree must be awarded prior to August 16, 2023. Salary is commensurate with qualifications. 

Position Description
Primary responsibilities include administrating instrumental studies, directing the Wind Ensemble, and co-teaching conducting.  Other instructional responsibilities are based on qualifications and needs of the department and may include jazz ensemble, athletic band, music technology, marching band techniques, instrumental pedagogy, applied lessons, humanities courses in music, or supervision of student teachers.  The successful candidate will be expected to engage in scholarship or creative activity, be active in service, and advise students.

The Department of Communication and Emerging Media offers two B.A. degrees (Communication B.A. and Emerging Media B.A.) along with a minor in Communication. The Department also offers the two B.A. degree program online through Palmetto College. We serve approximately 140 majors. Our curriculum for each B.A. degree includes nine core courses and a required capstone internship experience, and is designed to challenge students to understand, integrate and apply theories and principles from both speech and mass communication areas. We emphasize critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
