About the Degree

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) provides preparation for teaching in preschool, kindergarten, and primary grades. The Early Childhood certificate permits teaching of grades PK – 3 in elementary schools in South Carolina. Through coursework and field experiences, the early childhood education curriculum provides multiple opportunities for candidates to obtain the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to meet the standards established by the National Association for the Education of Young Children and the South Carolina Department of Education.


Program Highlights

Our Early Childhood Education program values experiences in and out of the classroom. Therefore, our students are active in coursework, research, and scholarship.

The program of study includes a liberal arts general education component and opportunity for extensive field-based experiences.  


Curriculum

At UofSC Aiken, our teacher education programs are fully accredited by the South Carolina Department of Education, the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) as well as the program’s respective professional organizations. Our award winning faculty hold advanced degrees from respected Universities and are experienced classroom teachers and administrators.
